Philosophy asks the most fundamental questions about existence, the nature of reality, knowledge, and how we should live. Studying philosophy will help you cultivate clear and focused writing, analytical and problem-solving skills, and, in general, disciplined and effective thinking.
As a philosophy major, you will study the major systematic fields of philosophy, advanced analytic and logical methods, and the history of the discipline. You also will complete a second major, a minor, or a concentration.
As a student in philosophy, learn and use the tools needed to conduct research. Our faculty and student researchers examine topics like privacy issues in the law, the concept of futility in medical ethics, and equity issues related to the management of nuclear waste.
A degree in philosophy is an ideal first step toward any number of professional occupations, including law, management, medicine, and public health, environmental science, mathematics, journalism, and linguistics.
